Question:
Hi fellow seniors, which do you prefer a shower or the bath?

I must admit I prefer a long soak in the bath with my special lotions and tonics, the only problem I have is getting in and out of it.
The dodgy knee doesn't like getting in but after awhile the warm water does relax it a little and it's easier climbing out.
I use the shower for quick starts in the morning as it does the job and is more economical.

So which if you have the choice do you prefer?

Shower. I am about to remodel my bath and I am taking out the tub and putting in just a shower, BUT, one of my next projects will to put in a two person jetted hot tub in a room off my studio. I would like the ability to polish my body as this will do. It is deep enough that I will be able to 'float' up and get my legs under me to get out as you do in a large hot tub.

I dream and scheme.. :)

I like a shower but now because we are living overseas and our bathroom was last remodeled in the 60's if that, I am forced to take what I call a "ba-shower".

We don't have a shower stall only a tub but we have a hose that goes with the tub. After the bath, we hose off so it's a "ba-shower. Not a shower and not a bath.

I get too cold and bored sitting in a tub of water.

First thing I do when I go back to the states is take a long hot shower in a nice new stall.

Bath.

Though I often opt for a shower just for quickness.

The trouble is, I stand a shade over 6' 8" tall in my bare feet and weigh in at around 315 lbs, although I don't carry an ounce of fat. I have to turn slightly sideways and often have to stoop a little to get through some interior doors. And I spend much of my life dodging hanging light fittings - I'm one of those grossly oversized neanderthal types who can trash a place just by standing still and trying to be careful.

I remember when I was young it was a devil of a job finding a tub I could actually fit in to, and I always promised myself that one day things would be better. So when I'd served my time working like a pit pony from sun up to sun down and made my fortune I bought this place and made my own bath in an extension. It's huge by anybody's standards. And deep. I also sorted out a shower that pours down on my head instead of my chest lol.

I do love a long, hot soak, though.

I usually prefer a quick shower. However when we were on the road for the family reunion, I reserved a motel room with the jacuzzi for recharging before the long drive home the next day. That tub was a huge treat for us. We do try to conserve water usage where we live.

A bath. Always a bath.

I have arthritic knees too, so lowering and raising myself can be a real chore--but I wouldn't give up my bath for the world! I just installed grab bars instead! One beside me on the back wall to help in raising and lowering me in the water, the other on the end wall above the faucets to raise and lower me in the tub, and that one extends out beyond the edge of the tub, so it also helps me make the transition over the lip!

Boy oh boy, the mental pictures these answers have created.......and so early in the morning! I'll bet this will chase away those young trolls.

As a part of my strength-building class (just kidding), I get in and out of the tub just so I won't lose that ability. Arthritic knees need to be exercised daily and the nice warm soak in a bubble bath doesn't hurt either.

I prefer the bath because I relax in the tub. I always take a book with me and just escape. I don't really use the bath to bathe, if you know what I mean. I bathe in the shower but relax and escape in the tub.

I have always loved a good shower with ample water pressure. In our house trailer that's kind of hard. Now that I have COPD it's hard to breathe in the shower, too, but I persevere because I hate taking a bath, getting in and out of the tub is hard. I will shower, then shampoo my hair in the bathroom sink.

When I was a little girl, I used to LOVE taking baths with all my dolls, plastic boats, etc! I would make huge waves, put my dolls on the boats, and then pretend they were queens being captured by pirates. Then I would be the evil monster who suffocated everybody with something called Crazy Foam. It smelled SO good and it was enormous fun to use!

That was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Nowadays, I take showers. However, I still love bath-related novelties:

Bath (with lots of sodium bicarbonate and magnesium sulfate and eucalyptus oil) for pleasure. Shower for getting clean.

I always wanted a shower with the nozzles coming from every direction like the one that Terry-Thomas runs for Jack Lemmon in "How to Murder Your Wife." "This is Mr. Ford's shower, thermostatically controlled to Mr. Ford's body temperature, ninety-eight point SEVEN."

A shower. In fact so much so that when I remodeled my bathroom 2 years ago I eliminated the tub and have a beautiful ceramic tile and glass shower. It's so easy to clean and with the grab bars I feel safer

A bath.

I too, love the additives of oils, minerals & bubbles.

I take so long to shower that it's more water saving to bathe. (I tested this by plugging the tub during my shower once.)

I have to take my time getting out to be safe. One time, my meds kicked it before leaving the tub. I had to kinda' roll, push & slide my way to the floor. It take my night meds after my bath now.

My husband has a bath every night when he gets in from work - he's a builder so gets dusty/dirty.

Me - I much prefer a shower. We have a shower over the bathtub, so we're both happy.

A shower for the sake of time.Plus when I over exert myself I can turn to the pulsating mode for a muscle relaxer.
