Is this becoming obsolete now due to more people using the internet ? Are semi drivers about the only ones using CB's now ?

Yes, got my first ham license in the fifties. Ham radio is not obsolete, but there are fewer and fewer on the air each year, as us oldtimers die off. It doesn't seem like there are many young folks coming into the hobby these days. The internet and cheap phone calls make ordinary ham radio seem almost redundant, though it still offers outstanding emergency communication capabilities.

CBs, something totally different, are essentially short range in nature. I don't know anyone who uses CB any more, though at one time nearly everyone seemed to have one in their car. I know we did!

Ham Radios and CB's are a world apart. My Dad was once a ''Ham Radio Operator" - he spoke to many folks far and wide the sector. Principally when a disaster hit a special nation. Example - Japan had an earthquake and dad would relay messages to the family in the USAA. And Canada. CB's were all over within the 70's. Semi drivers nonetheless use them.

CB's were everywhere in the 70's.

Semi drivers still use them.

Never did Ham radio, but we did put a CB radio in our Mercury, on cross-country trips, and it was hilarious..! All the semi truck drivers warning everyone about Smokey the Bear on Highway 5 and the advice they gave each other about truck stops and food and the like.

I used to grab the mike and sing English Songs from The Old Country and it always brought a howl of protest and of course, they never could figure it out as to where it was coming from. In fact, often they warned each other that our white Merc' was a police car in disguise..!

Yes, and Yes, to your Amateur radio Q's.

CB, well never mind, I have nothing good to say about CBers!

Once the "no-code" licenses were allowed, I lost interest in Ham radio, the CBers wrecked it!

We had CB's so that we could talk between camping rigs in the good old days. 10-4 good buddy! ;-). They have been replaced with cell phones. We didn't have the home ham radios.

Never was a ham, but enjoyed Charlie Brown (CB) back when it was popular.

I sitll enjoy listening to a police scanner, though was forced to sell my last one a few months ago to help buy food. Hope to get another soon.

And, I also enjoy my table radio; listen to AM talk radio at night and in the car..

Nope, I never was.

A CB is not the same thing, thats "citizens band" radio, I had one of those in the 70s, but really didn't use it that much.

Yes, I am. And you are right their are getting fewer and fewer ham radio operators. It is sad to see. But what is going to happen if the government cuts the internet off. Thanks to Obama and what he wants.

So it might be good to be a ham radio operator again.

I had a novice license in the late 40s. Never could get that code. 5wpm was about my max. Didn't do any more when the novice license expired.

Used to be a C.B. user great, until the "Bucket mouths, Trolls", spoilt it!....Do not let them spoil S/C.!..Had one in my bedroom, so relaxing the glow off the C.B. and friends voices....
