My 12 year old grand daughter says 21. 65 is the recognized age. Retirement communities begin at 55. Some restaurants allow discounts for 62 and older.

For most general purposes the age 65 is used to classify someone as a senior citizen. However, the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) begins their recruiting at age 50. Senior discounts can be established at any age a business considers appropriate, unless their is an ordinance (law) prescribing the limit in your local area. People can retire at younger ages as well, depending on their financial situation and inclination toward work.

Well if you talking about resturaunt and other consumer discounts sometimes age 50-55 is considered senior age. For retirement (65 years and 10 months, you can draw from social security) unless of course if you retire early around 60, you can start then.

I think if you were an able to walk and work then you are considered a senior citizen. Just kidding. I think 65, so I'm not there yet. It will be a long way to go for me to get my discount.

You can join AARP when you're 50; most senior living facilities require someone 55 or older to be living in each unit. Lots of discounts require you to be 60. In short, I guess it depends on who and what you're dealing with. If you want to know about a particular establishment, then call them.

65. It's when you become eligible for all of those senior citizens' discounts, like on movie tickets and stuff.

The rules for senior discount are set by the business you are using. Restaurants, movie theaters etc. choose their own age.
