Question:
Do you go to casinos?

Our company had the annual Christmas party at a casino this year. It was a new experience for me. I was surprised at the number of smokers in there gambling with a cigarette hanging from their mouth. Yuck!!!! There was a blue cloud of smoke in the air. Thank goodness I found the non-smoking room. Also, many of the gamblers were Senior Citizens. I felt so out of place, bored and uncomfortable. Finally found a football game to watch on one of the TVs.

Do you go to casinos? What's fun about it?

I think it is really depressing . I've been twice, and both times I just felt sad . Ours is in the city, and they used the shell of a lovely old building for it. That is the only good part, to me. Once inside, it is wall-to-wall solemn people handing over huge wads of money to croupiers, and then watching the money disappear. Nobody looked like James Bond in a tuxedo...most looked like ordinary people who were apparantly gambling away their week's pay on the turn of a dice or card. I wanted to pick them all up and take them outside , and tell them to go home to their families. I may sound like a spoil-sport, but I really hate what gambling does to people.

I go once in a while. The Chumash Indian Casino here is non-smoking AND non-drinking so it's a bit more pleasant than Vegas. It's still a losing proposition, so I gamble what I can afford to lose (~$40) and then leave.

I enjoy Vegas once in a while and although there is smoking (even in the restaurants), I just take it as "Vegas" and go on. I'd rather spend my money on shows. The last 2 times I've been there, I saw "Penn and Teller" the magicians and "Mama Mia" the musical. I also toured the Hoover Dam and the Red Rock State Park north of there (Forgot its real name). The downtown area is fun, too with the light show on the street that was blocked off.

GOOD luck (if you do gamble)

I would rather stick pins in my eyes! We just went to see the Grand Canyon with a stop over in Las Vegas. Las Vegas was the most disgusting experience ever! And I'm no prude but I just don't "get it". Hey people! They didn't build those tacky hotels to give you money! American culture at it's WORST!

And if you want to know why there is so much smoking in casinos, it's because smoking is an addiction just like gambling and drinking, two other vices you see in abundance in the casinos. Gambling should be outlawed, it is the rich stealing more from the poor.

My ex is an avid gambler. We used to go to Vegas for business conventions every year. I did not like Vegas at all. We also used to go to Laughlin. that was fun as they had the river there, and it was more layed back and quieter than Vegas. If we went on vacation he could sniff out a casino miles away, and we usually had to stop. He would play mostly and I would watch. If I did play I would have a limit and stop. We used to play 21, slots and Let it Ride.

I don't go anymore, I have better things to do with my money.

That's one of the reasons he's my Ex, but just one.

I think the older people go on bus trips to get away and socilize with other people. they are the ones you will find playing the nickle and penny slots. they also go for the buffets.

If you don't like the smoke, don't go, or stay in the non-smoking areas.

No, not really. We went on a gambling cruise once. It was just not our thing. The cigarette smoke was disgusting.

Tampa does have the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and casino, but we have never gone. No smoking in Florida, so it shouldn't be so bad.

We are also in the midst of other gambling coming to the state. It certainly has it's bad sides but we are a tourist state and pay no state income taxes, the tourists pay it for us.

I have no Idea what is fun about it.

I do occasionally go to casinos but also don't enjoy the smoke or all the noise. I hang out in the non-smoking room and play quarter slots till I get bored then go home. I don't see what the big attraction is either..... although the ones in Las Vegas are much more entertaining than most Indian casinos I've been to.

I've been to a casino only once. Aretha Franklin was doing a show for the casino, and I had to pass the gambling tables and machines to get to the cashier's office where the tickets were held. It took about 20 minutes to get to and from the office, and that was enough. Between the smoke, the noise of the machines, the flashing lights, etc., I was glad to get over to the entertainment hall.

My hubby and I go to a local casino maybe 3 times a year. We are not major gamblers and we set a specific limit that we are going to spend and we never go over it. During the warmer months, (I live in Mass), we go on a casino boating cruise for 5 hours that is local and a lot of fun. You have a buffet meal that is fabulous, live music, an upper deck to sit outside on and of course the gambling.

I too am amazed at the smoky haze in the smoking section. I find it hard to believe that people can just walk around smoking in nice carpeted areas.

I am also amazed that the majority of people I encounter are senior citizens. The last time I was at the casino, I started chatting with an older woman sitting next to me. She told me that she goes to the casino three times per week! I just can't imagine how they can afford it.

It's only fun if you like to gamble or you go specifically to dine or see a show. I worked in one for nineteen years and now I go maybe twice a year. I hate the noise and the crowds. I live less than ten miles away from ten casinos. I do play some on line poker. It's very low limit, but that takes care of my gambling.

I never go. I don't want to find out I need the gambling addiction telephone number.

My 22 year old Grand daughter went for the first time and won $800. Now I worry a little about her.

I go to the Indian casino maybe twice a year. Fortunately, it's a non-smoking casino. I usually only take a small amount and play the penny or nickel slots.

I live in Las Vegas and I go every once a week.

I do hate the smell of tobacco but I guess I have to deal with it. The fun about gambling is winning.

I don't go very often because of the smoke! But, when I do go I only take $20 in so I won't go nuts. I usually win about $80 or so, but, not always!!!! I don't think it's an appropriate place to have a Christmas party!! But, to each his own!

I go the on board casino when cruising the Caribbean...and once on a 'fly and stay' holiday in St. Maarten. I set a limit and play the slots...Won $1000 last summer!

Yes, I do enjoy casinos. There are always non smoking rooms for those that do not want to be around smokers. If you didn't enjoy it this year and they plan on repeating next year, simply don't go.

No, it's a waste of time and money. I hate the smoke and the whole atmosphere. Only making the greedy bast*rds richer. Giving the rest of the people more problems to deal with.

My husband and I did once or twice a week when we lived in Las Vegas. The buffet was superb. Then we would play machine keno. had lots of fun and probably broke about even had we kept track.

I would love to be able to go blow a lot of $$ that I have no use for or couldn't find a way to use wisely.

Back in the day... trying to remember when that was... I loved the slot machines! Just tried to break even...

Now, it's to much noise... overwhelms me!

Once in a while but it's a waste of money. It kinda bothers me to see all the seniors wasting their money in those slots when they could be putting it towards a nice vacation or towards the grandkids college fees!
