Yes indeed I do Suzie.

He would have a stool, and a glass of 'something' to drink. I recall he had a half-finger missing. He would smoke throughout his performance, lighting up several times.

His joke would not be tolerated now by the PC brigade. Despite his closing "May your God go with you", or something like that.

He was dry, cutting, and had a cheeky knowing smile.

Sorry I could not get the link to work on my laptop, but it is poorly, and I'm about to do a scan on it to find out its illness.

Take care.

I do remember Dave Allen, he was a great laugh, it was always a joy to watch him on the television cracking jokes, mostly religious ones, all those sketches that they did as well. He always sat on his high chair, cigarette in one one hand and a glass of whisky in the other hand. It was only when I read about his death that I discovered the the drink was not whisky at all, but just a light coloured non alcohol drink.

Yes I remember him fondly.

Irreverent, cheeky and fearless. We don't have a Dave Allen anymore.

Thank you for the web post. Brought back memories of what is was like to laugh without swear

words.

He was the only entertainer banned on the BBC for 3 months after taking the POPE down.

His best joke that got him banned was,

Why was Jesus crucified and not get the electric chair?

Because its easier for catholics to do this, makes sign of cross, than

shakes body like getting electrocuted, brought the house down and lit up the BBC telephone switchboard, two days later he was banned for 3 months.

Good one Dave, stick it to em.

Only Steve Allen ( I am in the U.S.) Do you still have to pay for a TV license in England?

A great talent. We need another like him now to lampoon all those who take themselves too seriously. What he would make of the current priestly obsessions of child abuse and homosexuality one can only hazard a guess.
