why is it that young people are constantly seen as ageist against old people when more than often its the other way round (talking from personal experience),with ignoring young people in shops,to banning people in school uniform (no other uniform) from shops and cafes,to security guards following young people around shops,to a sign near my college saying 'do you know were your #children# are?teenagers are the main cause for crime and vandalism'.that is ageism!not all young people are thiefs and vandals and the minority who are arent going to stop when they hit 18.

Discrimination only seems to be against the law if your able to vote....

It sucks, I know.

It's amazing how the ones with a voice can gather and say that the ones without a voice are more dangerous because of something like their age or something like that. It was the same thing against African Americans before Martin Luther King Jr, people just want to put themselves above someone else.

Ageism has really never stopped. When we were the age of the children, we were rebelling against our parents (or the we as a whole not as an individual as my parents would have kicked my behind)

These children will get their commupance when they have children and we'll sit back and say "See? We told you so!"

As for advertising? It's always played to the younger crowd -- it's just never looked quite as young as it has now. My goodness young looks practically pre-pubescent.

You're right. Not all of them are theives, vandals and psychos. They're mostly good kids who are just trying to have some fun. We only hear about the bad kids.

Thank you, elegante, for teaching an old dog new tricks. In this case I just learned a new word...ageism. Although our society favors youth and encourages us to keep looking young and thin,

I do not agree with your point of view. Granted that the young are more of reckless drivers, but so are some very old folks. Life tends to balance itself out. What is my point? None, just smile and be happy!

As an old person, I can tell you the world is a lot friendlier to young people than it it to us. Look at advertising. It's probably 75% geared to young people. How many movies that are made are meant to appeal to older people. Spiderman, Superman Batman etc. Unfortunately, a lot of crime is committed by younger people because they havent reached the age of reason. They think they're invincible and can get away with speeding, doing drugs and drinking. I remember feeling like that. Dont be too hard on us-you'll be our age one day-with any luck.

they have been teenagers as quickly as, yet with increasing age they understand that the distinctive issues they theory substitute into particularly significant and funky as teenagers substitute into particularly stupid. a number of them ought to be narrow minded nevertheless. There are all types. without you bringing up a concrete occasion i won't be in a position to assert whether that is them or you. you're able to additionally be doing something which you think of is commonly used, yet they don't. i've got seen teenagers seem at me strangely as quickly as I advised them littering isn't ok (and that i'm speaking some bag's finished of stuff), yet judging from their habit that is thoroughly commonly used for them. I nevertheless do not see that i think of people ought to have the job cleansing up after teenagers in public places if the youngsters are sufficiently previous to do it themselves. They probable think of i'm illiberal.

Amen to that. At my last job, I was younger than most of my co-workers, and just having to work with them and have them tell me what to do or how to do it when I already knew made me feel like I was not being taken seriously or treated like an adult. That's morally wrong.

The only people who think ageism is about old people or about young people are people who don't want to take responsibility for their own behavior. Young or old, they seek to blame somebody else for their problems.

This is true of every "them" vs "us" issue.
