Question:
Who is your favourite musician of all time?

The one in fact who has stood the test of time. Mine is Stevie Wonder. I have loved his music for over 40 years. What about you?

There seems to be some confusion here between 'musician' and 'singer'.

For example, Stevie Wonder plays a mean harmonica, but Sinatra or Bonnie Tyler can't really be called musicians.

So, to take the question to mean 'musician', I'll go for Hank Marvin: a brilliant musician who has proved the inspiration for countless guitarists over the past half-century.

But of course, many classical musicians could beat your popular musicians hands down.

So, if I may, I'll add Andres Segovia.

My favorite musician of all time, is based on which persons' music

I've been exposed to. And only one top performer comes to my mind,

and that is the Flamenco guitar playing of Charo. We used to see her

on television often during the 70's and even the 80's. But now we

rarely get a glimpse of her. She was the most articulate player I'd

ever heard. And yet, she was mainly on TV for humorous sketches

on comedy shows. So she rarely had a chance to exhibit her true

natural talent. But I still remember how her playing made everything

stop around me, as I focused in on her picking those guitar strings.

Musician: Chet Atkins.

Vocalist: Eddie Arnold.

Well the temptation to say, " David, he played the harp " is strong but Charlie McCoy on the harmonica is at the top of my list along with Eddy Arnold. There are so many greats that I can't do justice to all of them by choosing a favorite. That would be like picking out your favorite Bluebonnet out of a hundred acre field of Bluebonnets in Texas in the spring. I always stop and pay tribute to Gentleman Jim Reeves when I pass the memorial for him over in East Texas. I think that it is in Panola County. When you are headed Northeast it is on the right side of the highway. Suzie, I will tell him about you when I stop there next time.

Ann Wilson (Heart) - Her vocal range is phenominal! Although not written by her, she can really belt out "Love Hurts'" & it touches the very depths of my soul!

Next is the all-time, always fabulous, Tina Turner! What a performer, even still, at the age of 69-70!

Current favorites are John Legend ("Tell Me"), and Wynonna Ryder "I Wanna Know What Love Is." Totally different styles, but both fabulous in their own right! These two will also stand the test of time!

Don't apologise for appreciating GOOD music Bexka darlin' - I too adore Classical music and much prefer it to more modern noisy rubbish, however whilst I too like Mozart in answer to the question - for me it has to be Rossini.

Wynton Marsalis. Fantastic trumpet/cornet player. So versatile.

It depends on the genre.

In country, it has to be George Jones.

In Rock & Roll, maybe the Everly Brothers:

Glenn Miller. Of course I'm just the odd 20-something who likes Big Band music.

I also live 3 houses down from his childhood home in Nebraska, and my nephews and niece go to the same elementary school as he did!

This is sheer torture for me! I start to pick one, then feel guilty because I think of another one. lol There are too many wonderful musicians. I would have to say Jimmy Page, guitarist, (Led Zeppelin)

added note: 'cailean' is correct, that is why I listed a musician, not a singer. There is a difference. :)

I cant say that I have one particular one but Christopher Cross comes to mind. That song Sailing from 79-80 time frame use to really sooth my mind. I lived in Panama at the time and would sit on the beach and just dream of being other places and in love.

Frank Sinatra. His Bossa Nova recordings with Antonio Carlos Jobim were my favorites. The ones with Tommy Dorsey were wonderful, too.

Edit: It is true that Sinatra was not a musician. In that case, all other answers with vocalists are wrong, also. Please don't single out just Sinatra.

I'm with Jackie Blue on this one - its a killer trying to come up with one name. It always depends on the mood I'm. My word, if you could see the crazy mix of music on my ipod. I also seem to go through phases and right now I'm into Bill Withers.
