Do you think Senior Americans over 65 on Social Security Should Have To Pay Income Tax ?

Seniors pay "income" tax on 85% of their Social Security Tax. This is not "income" at all, but a social insurance into which they paid for more than 20 years, in some cases 30, 40 and 50 years. Also, people earning over $100,000 pay proportionately less tax with all the tax breaks they have been given by the Republican congresses of the past 10 years. Married People with Children pay even less tax. While Since people with no dependents, pay all the taxes that married people with children, and Billionaires don't pay.

Someone has to pay the taxes that support this "greatest country on earth" ... and the burden seems to be falling on those who can least afford it.

Do you feel this is fair?

If not are you willing to tell your Congress person so, and specifically Speaker Pelosi? Thank you for your thoughtful answer.

There's a very simple answer that wouldn't give or take from the millionaires as they would notice. All the IRS would have to do is exempt the first 25K of gross income from taxes for those over 65 and keep everything else as is.

This is a loaded question...look at it this way...you didn't pay taxes on the payments to SS over the years, so consider it a IRA investment. The tax on it at this time is probably considerably less than it would have been were you earning big bucks and the taxes were charged on that payment. Yes, consider it an IRA investment...hopefully, you will live long enough to collect some of what you have paid in....but I wonder, does anyone????

As for your arguement about the rich, that one does not hold water, sorry to say. The rich pay more taxes than all the middle class and lower class earners do combined.

No,I do not. Tax was paid already on that money. It aint much to live on as it is.They should give seniors a brake..
