Merry Christmas, because that is what the holiday is... CHRISTMAS.

Yes, there is Hannukah during the same "span" of time, and they include Thanksgiving and New Year in this grouping, too. And they even made up Kwanza so as to not have certain people feeling left out, for some reason.

So, the PC crowd wants us to be all-inclusive and say "Happy Holidays." But if one is personally celebrating Christmas, there should be nothing wrong with wishing someone a Merry Christmas...just as there should be nothing wrong with wishing someone a Happy Hannukah, etc.

Have a Senior day.

If you understand and recognize this time of year to be a celebration of life and hope because of the birth of Jesus Christ, then you're thrilled and anxious to say Merry Christmas, and THAT can bring about a Happy Holiday. Jesus is the reason for the season!!!

Edit: Poor, poor Sage! He sounds very educated but has very little intelligence. When education exceeds intelligence, Sage is the end result. Merry Christmas, anyway, Sage Jesus is the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays is way too generic.

It's those people who say it's incorrect to use 'merry Christmas' (usually some Ms. at local government) as it may offend people of other religions that are the main cause of ill-feeling.

I have friends of different religions and i send them a Christmas card with 'merry Christmas'

I have yet to hear a complaint from my Asian friends about it.

I will never say 'happy holiday' at Christmas,no matter if it did offend

Merry Christmas, at Christmas and Happy New Year at New Years. Phooey on all this Happy Holidays stuff. I get tired of all this trying to change everything that has been tradition for years.

I prefer to say, and to hear, Merry Christmas, that's what I'm used to. But I respect the fact that there are people that are not Christians, and that they prefer to hear Happy Holidays, or other different greetings, so I try to say to each person what I know they prefer, or a general Happy Holidays, in case I don't know the person well, don't know if they are Christians or not. This is mostly at the Internet because, where I live, most people are Christians, and we say "Feliz Natal" (Merry Christmas) to all :)
hello world
2008-12-13 12:05:38 UTC
I always prefer to use "Merry Christmas"....although I think for the past couple of years, when I have had personalised Christmas cards made from my own photos, I have used "Season's Greetings" as the message inside....especially as I am not *always* certain how any "new" folks on my Christmas card list will feel about "Merry Christmas".

"Happy Holidays" just doesn't sound *quite* right to me....although that could work, too.

And yes....I am sure I have heard people saying that "Merry Christmas" is politically incorrect, too....but that will not stop me from saying it.
2008-12-13 14:03:22 UTC
Merry Christmas is correct

there are some that will bah hum bug it, but let them say Happy Holidays all they want..

Legit:; I will say Merry Christmas, it is tradition and correct.....

Merry Christmas, Merry Twismas, Merry Christmas

to all and to all a good night......

Merry Christmas and it does have everything to do with my christian faith,No matter what day Jesus was born , which by the way was around this time of year we choose tho celebrate his birth.Pooey on those that don't.We wouldn't have a Christmas to celebrate if it weren't for his birth.I don't give a hoot about being politically correct. If washington can't get it right then why should I?Merry Cristmas everyone and God Bless each of you.

I usually say Merry Christmas. If I know that someone is Jewish I may say Happy Hannukah or Happy Holidays. I think we have gone way overboard on the "politically correct" stuff. I cant imagine someone being insulted if you say the word Christmas. We dont buy holiday trees, holiday presents and hang up holiday stockings. Is the big fat guy in the red suit Mr. Holiday? Humbug!
2008-12-13 12:03:35 UTC
Christmas is a holiday, so it should always be said, "Merry Christmas." It's been that way my 54 yrs and until my last breath is drawn, it will continue to be Merry Christmas for me. I cringed at the secular progressive movement. Not everything is for the betterment of the world. FYI, the Christmas tree represents Christ, (every green) meaning 'life everlasting.' The tree was then introduced to represent Christs life. Also we celebrate Christ's birth Dec 25th but he was actually born about that date in September. His conception would have been around Dec 25th but Christians should not have a problem with that since the conception is truly when Christ first began to dwell with mankind even from the womb. If you do the easy math you can see it is 9 mos from the conception to a birth around Sept. The shepherds were still in the fields with their sheep, as they grazed. That would not have happened in Dec as the animals would have been in their stable dwellings.

Merry Christmas! Tis the reason for the season!
2008-12-13 14:52:49 UTC
Merry Christmas! If it wasn't for the birth of Christ and those in the past making this time of the year the time to celebrate (YES I KNOW Jesus wasn't born in 12/25!), then we'd have no Christmas tree, Christmas parties, Christmas gifts, "winter break" for schools.

I love it how Lowe's sells 'HOLIDAY TREES' but only near CHRISTMAS. You can't buy any 'holiday trees' any other time of the year for any other holiday. I went into the Lowe's around the corner on Va Beach Blvd the end of June and asked the clerk where the 'holiday trees' were because I wanted to buy one for the 4th of July. She just laughed and walked away.

(I am such a smart butt. I also ask clerks if they take 'out of state cash,' if the Dollar Tree has a 'wedding registry.' hahahahahaha)

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!

I say Merry Christmas. I celebrate Christmas, so that's what's on my mind. If someone is offended, tough! I'm offended that Christmas is offensive to some. I'm also offended when I see Spanish verbiage on American products in American stores! There, I feel better now.

And Merry Christmas.

Definitely Merry Christmas.

dizz, I still tell everyone, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! I don't care if its politically incorrect or not. That's such a sham cuz it seems like its just the people who want to take the word, "God" out of the "Pledge of Allegiance", off money---"In God We Trust," etc. God (the true meaning of Christmas) is why we celebrate Christmas (Christ's birth). When it comes to that, I don't care if I offend anyone. That's what our country was founded on, so tough sh**. If those people don't like it, get out of our country. EVER HEAR OF THE 5TH AMENDMENT??? That's my take on this whole subject. Btw, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO!!!
?
2008-12-13 13:52:22 UTC
I say Merry Christmas, to someone who is Jewish I say Happy Hannukah, or Seasons' Greetings to everyone else. Since holidays occur in all months of the year, Happy Holidays doesn't sound quite right.

Political correctness is nonsense.

It will be over my dead body if anyone in my family ever has a problem with observing Christmas as the celebration of the birth of the Christ Child, our Holy Savior. Woe be it unto the man or woman who ever thinks that we will ever succumb to someone who has set out to destroy the Christian Traditions that I have inherited from my ancestry. It really is no business of mine why, when or how strangers celebrate whatever, whenever and however. My traditions are who, what and why I am and that shall remain true until this old simple minded worn-out cowboy crosses the great divide.

More often than not when I'm putting on the parties as well as free food and drink I hear no complaints about Merry Christmas.

To me, political correctness is synonomous with cowardice.

To a degree it is politically incorrect!!!

Chrsitmas is nothing to do with either Christianity or Islam but it does have it's origins in the midwinter festival and many other basically pagan rites but since much of it is a celebration of nature rather than religion everyone should be able to enjoy it and be happy together despite religion!!

The ancient European pagans celebrated the midwinter festival and a number of other festivals long before Christianity ever existed!

Babylonians celebrated the feast of the Son of Isis with gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift giving and the goddess of fertility, love, and war.

The Romans held a festival on 25 December called “Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, celebrating their own god Sol Invictas - PAGAN.

The Persian god Mithras, the Syrian sun god Elah Gabal, the German Sol, the Greek Helios and the Mesopotamian Shamash. But also Saturnalia, honouring Saturn, the God of Agriculture. The law courts and schools were closed. No public business could be transacted an this is where the holidays originated - ALL PAGAN!!!

Wax tapers were given by the more humble to their superiors. The origin of the Christmas candle - PAGAN!!

In Rome groups of costumed went from house to house entertaining their people. And this was where the carolling Christmas tradition originated PAGAN!!

Statues of the Mother and lover or Mother and son were paraded through the streets not only in Italy but also in Africa, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany and Bulgaria. Thus, the symbolism of the Heavenly Virgin and the infant child paraded on a yearly basis are not of Christian origin. They stem from the Mother-goddess religion, which is very ancient ENTIRELY PAGAN!!.

Scandinavian countries celebrated Yule honouring Thor - PAGAN.

In Germania (not Germany) they celebrated midwinter night followed by 12 wild nights of eating and drinking. The 12 days of Christmas PAGAN!!

The church under Pope Julius I declared that Christ’s birth would be celebrated on December 25 in 350 AD in order to try to hijack the PAGAN festivals but it was largely ignored. Christians did not really celebrate Christmas until 378 but it was then dropped in 381 and not resurrected until 400.

The Christmas tree stems from pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the Winter Solstice, which included the use of holly boughs ivy and other foliage as an adaptation of pagan tree worship. Holly and ivy represented male and female. Mistletoe was considered a sacred plant, and the custom of kissing under the mistletoe began as a fertility ritual - all PAGAN!!

Santa Claus came from the Dutch “Sinterklaas” and was a tall figure riding a white horse through the air and usually accompanied by Black Peter, an elf who punished disobedient children. Also the origin of the reindeer, sleigh and the elves ALL PAGAN!!

The modern red coated Santa was brought about by coca cola!!

America actually banned Christmas several times and is the originator of the expression “Happy Holidays” which came about because of the pagan origins of Christmas to include all religions and traditions!!
