screen door, the old-fashioned kind? I do. The storm door helps save energy but there are times when I wish I had a full-screen door to draw a draft through the house during nice weather. I kind of miss the way they sounded when someone went in or out too Of course back then we didn't have to lock our doors and left the inside door open all day in warm weather.

Wow, great question, yes I remember the sounds of the slamming screen door and also the breeze. Also my mom yelling stop slamming the screen door! LOL I loved sitting on the old porch swing and listen to people coming in and out. It was comforting at times. You knew you were home!

I've got one that is kind of inventive. The contractor who remade our living room got some of these doors on a trial basis.

They are metal, have a window. But, you push the window up, and there's a screen that comes up from the bottom. Tired of the screen? Push it back down into the bottom. I kinda like it.

I do miss the sound that old metal spring attached to those old doors used to make. And the sound of those wooden doors as they hit the frame.

Boy do I ever! I love to have the windows open, but really miss a screen door, minus the flies though. lol Heck I remember the only lock mom and dad had on their screened door was an inside hook. I can see it now, our front screen door was painted dark green.

I have screen doors on the porch of our country place and I love them. I found them at Lowe's and they have the gingerbread trim on them just like the ones we had when I was a kid. I put the old fashioned hooks with bent locks on them for when the wind blows hard but otherwise, the grandkids can come and go as they please. I don't know why they love the sound of those doors slamming but they do. It doesn't bother me at all. Heck, I slam them too. Sounds like home to me and makes for good memories for the kids.

I did miss it, so much in fact that I had my brother buy one and install it on my patio door. We took the sliding screen off and replaced it with a spring-hinged wooden door. When we go in and out, it sounds like an old-fashioned door we had on the farm...reminds me of a cottage door at summer camp, lol!

EDIT: If you've ever watched The Waltons, you will hear the squee--eeekSLAM often!

We can still buy the wooden screen door, once a year they advertise and we can chose the size and number of screen panels it has. Home Depot and Carter Lumber and Big L Lumber Company has this sale.

I live in a house built in the 40's and it still has the original screen door. So, we get to enjoy the summer breezes!

Yes, my storm door has half a screen but it's just not the same.

I have an old fashioned screen door on my gazebo. The only place they are NOT effective is on a submarine.

No, because it would not mean the same. I prefer to remember us kids running in and out of it at Grandma's farm.
