Question:
is it just me who notices this - or are all elderly female receptionists nitter-natter machines ?

all they ever do is talk about where they went on holidays, where their husbands took them for dinner the previous night, their amazingly successful grand-children, their new car or complete and utter pointless drivel.

i stood at the reception desk of a 2 1/2 star hotel and that is pretty much what I experienced for the umpteenth time.

so, i stand there and wait.

nitter natter nitter natter blah blah b/s.

i had to interupted the one seated and she told me in future never to rudely interrupt two employees who were working !

i wanted to slam the bottom of my clenched fist really hard on her desk and shout " NO - YOU listen to ME , i am a CUSTOMER, you are FAILING me madam..."

i didn't do that though, mind you a younger me would have.

if there was one man there, he'd have paid attention to me and dealt with me politely.

But it appears to me too many of these elderly women who do jobs like reception desk work are abusing their job roles and making a mockery of the whole job selection process.

it was my belief, that they were unfit for their jobs and that the manager was either blind/stupid or plain ignorant to see this.

maybe at a certain age elderly women should be restricted to such customer-focused orientated jobs ?

i hope i havent come across as a prejudiced a55hole ladies and gents.

i tried my hardest to ask this question in a respectful manner.

so, should old ladies who work behidn reception desks get sacked and be put on the dole ?

not just behind a reception desk I can tell you.

Have you never walked into a supermarket and had your way blocked because they all stand in the entrance yakking on about their pensions to the other old age cronies.........or tried to walk down an aisle to get something only to be confronted by a plethora of wrinklies blocking the aisle with their trolleys and still yakking away......and they won't get out of the way.

A law should be passed on them - Tuesdays Shopping only - rest of the week, let the people free to shop in peace

I agree, Hondaman24, older women are a lot more chatty as receptionists than younger ones - the younger ones if no good at their job are just bone lazy.

I have recently come across one of the mid-fifty year old receptionists at my doctors surgery who is also extremely abrupt, never smiles, will have two queues of patients/bill payers lined up 3 persons deep and she just answers the phone calls ignoring them. I was taught when I did a medical reception course to serve those that are inn front of you first and put the callers on hold. I find her very annoying as I having been applying for a similar position and most of the time I never get a reply to my applications.

I will be reporting this woman to my doctor when I next see her, and requesting that she loses her job, whether or not she is one of the doctors wives.

This ridiculous idea of raising the pension age has had a knock on effect. Supermarket check outs are manned by s l o w pension aged men and women who move at a sedentary rate oblivious to the length of the queue or the raised blood pressure of the people who have a life standing in it. They seem to regard their jobs as an extension of their social life or lack of one. Put them out to grass ffs!!

I am 60 this year and thank God move as fast as I did when i was in my 20's so look at these people with impatience and despair.

I agree with the answerer about these people blocking up the aisles as well. When I finish work I want to go round a supermarket unimpeded by old people who have all day to do their shopping.

If you are dissatisfied with the service your received, why don't you write a complaint letter to the manager of the hotel? Rather than whinging on here. Oh and yes you have come across as a prejudices ar5ehole.

I would of ask for the manager or her boss etc and complain about it and yes she should be fired. "customer" always comes first, she should of waited after she was done with you to continue her talking. but then that happen with all ages not just old people.

I have found that when you look for stuff, you find it. For example, How many pregnant women do you see in a day or how many postal workers? We can't generalize that ALL elderly female receptionists nitter-natter. Many do but not all. I think it's just you who notices most.
