One thing I don't understand so much is how so many people nowadays play videogames, I played videogames but I stopped when I was 14 or 15. I will be 22 in October and I know people MY AGE who still play.

Look, I'm not against gamers or anything, I just don't see the point of it, like its a culture for some people, there's magazines, conventions, websites, all sorts of things, and for me it was just another toy I had during my childhood and early adolescence.

I think society is better off without them or at least if they weren't so popular with young adults, My roomate is 21 and he still plays them!! my cousin's boyfriend is 31 and he loves his wii
Why?!

I want to get an opinion of a generation that did not have them growing up to understand the big picture more.
thanks!

What is the commonality of nearly all video games?

1) They require little to no thinking.

2) They require (with the exception of certain Wii games) no real physical effort.

3) They provide false instant gratification. (fool you into thinking you accomplished something)

4) Little ability is required to get gratification.

It is little wonder that smart ambitious people outgrow them when they become adults, if not sooner.

I was in my 20s when my cousin brought home a game called Pong, we would all (me, her husband and her kids) sit around and play for hours. But we got over it after a while. I was in my 40s when I bought a Super Nintendo for my daughter, age about 12. I got hooked on Tetris and would play for hours because it was addicting. I still remember going to bed at night and not being able to sleep because I'd see the little shapes falling, falling, falling, and putting them into place in my mind. I got over it in a couple of months. Later, I found a similar game called Tetris Attacks and went through the same thing. I got over it in a couple of months. My first point is that these things have been around a longer time than you imagine and my second point is that, yes, they are habit-forming, but a true adult will give them up over time. Who can say who gets addicted to the point of being unable to function? Certainly any age can have a problem with them and not just kids or young adults. But I don't think society would be better off without them. They are fun in moderation. If your roommate and your cousin's boyfriend still do their jobs and perform their responsibilities in a timely manner, then don't worry about it.

Everything is fine in moderation. My son-in-law is 40 but, after a long day's work, he enjoys his videogames for a while after he's helped bath and put the kids to bed. Nothing wrong with that.

No, I'm worried about ME - I seem to be addicted to answering questions on Yahoo Answers! Got nearly 44,000 points! How sad is that?

Any advice?

Ok, you got me! This ole lady is addicted to Freecell. I play first thing in the morning just to make sure I didn't have a stroke during the night and lost half my brain function.

I have a Wii which I use mostly to keep me active.

Did you know Wii is used in rehabs and nursing homes because it gives instant feedback and has been found to be effective in rehabilitation for vets and stroke victims?

My son's are gamers, that is their hobby. They are spread across the US, yet they can join each other in a game on a weekend night. Awesome!

It's fine for people who don't have a life and don't want one, either. Sort of like addiction to anything-alcohol, drugs, gambling, Facebook. You miss out on the important things going on right under you nose.

I don't play them, but I know many who do. They seem to have a cult-like following all their own.

I kind of like the car racing games, although I don't really play the game; I've tried them. There's only so many hours in a day - so I leave that to the kids.

I'm a gamer and i don't see any thing wrong with it as well as you do. but 22? There are people in their 40's still pickin' up the controller. its a really good way to past time and have fun with it. it's pretty much an interactive movie.

I did play one a little while ago but it was boring. A white dot going back and forwards across the black TV screen- bip, bop. Worst two minutes of my life. Video games? No thank you.

I have played them for years but gave them up, because over time you can get sick of something the way I did with them.

I didn't have them growing up -- but I see nothing wrong with them. I play them a lot myself. The big picture is that we all do what suits us -- if they don't suit you, don't play them.

I think most of them are disgusting.
