That's my first name and everyone I know that has been named Shirley was named after Shirley Temple. Just curious if my name is totally obsolete.

I Shirley do. lol
I know a young lady about 30 yrs old named Shirley, True many names from yesteryear are not as popular, but so many are beautiful names. I have a friend who is in her late 50s named Shirley and I also remember a couple of older guys with the first name of Shirley. That is odd isn't it, but we often associate some names with a particular gender.

You make a valid point. All the Shirleys that I know were named after Shirley Temple, who must really be getting on in years now.

Shirley is my middle name. I know several women 50 and over with the name, but no younger ones. Many years ago one of the patients in the dental office where I worked was named Shirley. It was a man in his 50's at that time. It is not a name that makes any popular list and maybe it is about time that it makes a comeback. (My sister could not pronounce my first name which is a nice one, Kathleen. I still tease her about that these many years later.)

Shirley Temple and Shirley Jones is all I can think of. I know no one personally under fifty. The gal who sat next to me in senior health was named Shirley tho. She was one of "those" girls we all talked about in the rest room!! I liked her tho. As a part B you ought to ask if anyone knows of man still alive named Shirley. Wasn't Maury Povich's dad named Shirley? Or was it some other odd name?

That is an excellent question. I know about 8 Shirley's over the age of 50 between family, friends, ex-employee and neighbor, but none under that age. Very very interesting and what a good point.

I only know one "Shirley" who is under the age of 50 & the rest are over 50 years of age. I don't really think your name is obsolete.

I only know one Shirley, she is over 50- but names seem to go in cycles, so I'm sure it will be popular again someday.
Just type in Shirley "anybody" and get every one of them in America.

No, you seldom hear it anymore, but someone is probably still naming their little girl Shirley. It may gain popularity again one day. Names seem to cycle.
