penny candy? Mine included those flying saucer wafers with li'l sugar beads in the middle (anyone?), and the licorice records ... round black discs of licorice with one sugar ball in the center to resemble a 45rpm record on a player. I also loved Turkish Taffy. Can you tell us about some of your favorites?

Spearmint leaves

Cinnamon sticks (red and white swirled hard candy, no bigger than a straw around and about 4 inches long)

Candy lips

Coke bottles (the candy ones, that had coke inside)

Black balls (those were actually my favourites! LOVED taking them out of my mouth every time the colour changed--they were different flavours, did you notice?--but HATED them once they started using cardamom seeds in the center!)

ANYTHING to do with black licorice--pipes being my favourite.

I liked the licorice bars that resembled a plug of tobacco, because my grandpa chewed and i would get this and act like i was chewing and go around and spit black licorice juice on the sidewalks. Still love licorice today!

Hi B, yes flying saucers,I'm another fan of licorice and competitions of who had the blackest teeth.

Anything with sherbet or hundreds and thousands on.

I was one of those annoying kids in the sweetie shop that took ages to choose amongst those wondrous goodies on the shelves.

Root Beer Barrels were my all time favorite candy but I liked other candies as well. My sister & I would load up the empty pop bottles in our wagon & we'd take them to the corner store to get the 2ยข deposit back per bottle. We shared the money & filled the little paper bag the grocer gave us, with our favorites. Cracker Barrel restaurants carry a lot of the vintage candy from yesteryears as well as the http://www.vermontcountrystore.com

Tea-berries. I never had more than 2 pennies at a time so I felt like I was getting more with them. I would eat them one at a time. I also liked the strips of paper with candy dots.

However because of weight watching my cupboard is bare ....... have found the sugared ginger (desperate) sort of bites back when you chew but goes well with the cola......confessions......good for the soul !

It was those little flat peanut butter crunchy thingys.... can't remember what they were called but you can still buy them in bags. My sister and I got an allowance of 25cents per week and it was amazing how much candy we could get for that.
