When you got better you lifted your leg and let the ball bounce under it on to the wall. We also played 'Kick the Can' where someone kicked it as far as they could and the others ran away to hide. Chap door and run away.Statues where the first person who moved was out. The usual hide and seek, Ring a Ring o' Roses, Farmer Wants a Wife, I sent a Letter to my Love, What's the time Mr Wolf? etc etc etc

The cheese stands alone -----------------------The players form a circle holding hands around one who is designated as the farmer, singing the first verse while moving around. When the verse is over they stop and the farmer makes his choice of a wife (sometimes without looking). The wife joins him in the center for her verse and so through the verses until either or the cheese or dog is selected or only one person is left to become the last character. They usually become the farmer for the next round.[1]

There was some song about jump up & pick a bale of cotton. Maybe somebody else who grew up in the Southwest or the South remembers it. Other than that, there was that corny little "I'm a Little Teapot" that we sang & acted out in first grade.

When you were picking someone to be first

We all put out our fists and said One potato, Two potato three potato four, five potato six potato more. The one Who had their hand touched on the word more was the one picked.

We used to sing Hitlers on the Western Front parlay vous, Hitlers on the Western Front Parlays Vous, Hitlers on the Western Front. now's the time to shoot the guns, inky pinky Parlay vous.

Another one for picking someone was 'Ip Skip sky blue whose it not you' The one who had the last you was saved.

We used to play skipping in the playground, and one of the most popular songs we sang was this one.

I'll tell me ma when I go home

The boys won't leave the girls alone

They pull my hair, they steal my comb

But that's all right till I get home

She is handsome, she is pretty

She is the belle of Belfast city

She is courting one, two, three

Please, won't you tell me, who is she?

After the last line a girls name was shouted out and that girl had to be ready to jump into the rope whilst it was still turning. Or she was "out".

The big ship sails,

On the alley, alley oh.

On the last day of December.

The captain says,

"It will never never do,

Never never do,

Never never do."

The captain says,

"It will never never do",

On the last day of December.

The big ship sank,

To the bottom of the sea,

The bottom of the sea,

The bottom of the sea.

The big ship sank,

To the bottom of the sea,

On the last day of December.

We all dip our hands,

In the deep blue sea,

The deep blue sea,

The deep blue sea.

We all dip our hands,

In the deep blue sea,

On the last day of December.
