My brother and I were working on a time machine so we can go back to the Spanish colonization of the America, when the Spaniards were hoarding gold. We were young and looking for a quick way to get our hands a lot of cash. During the construction something went awry and I was thrown back through time to the King Arthur era, where I met up with said king and saved his life. He was so taken by my martial art abilities that he gave me a seat at his round table. Now at the time, there was already a Sir Andrew, so I had to make up a new name. I chose to be called Sir Stephen, as I've always liked the name and it sounded fancy enough to fit with the other knights. Long story short after years of escapades with the Knights of the Round, my brother came, in the now working time machine and took me home. Needless to say, I had used the name Stephen for so long, I had grown accustomed to it. So now a days people refer to me as Steve. Stephen doesn't fit as well in this day and age.

Name your child whatever you feel fits them & what you feel is just...right in your soul. Not to sound too spacey lol. I named my son Roan, because I knew a kid when I was 7 with that name and it was a good, strong, simple name. And his middle name is my favorite author's last name. And I love his name. I almost walked out of the hospital with a child named "Baby (Last Name)" because I just couldn't think of a name I felt right about. Then the name hit me and it just fits now. My advice? Go with your gut. Konan isn't a common name, and the traditional spelling "Conan" implies it was either after Conan the Barbarian or Conan O'Brien. If you like it, that's all that matters. P.S.- My name is Kelley and it's the most boring name ever. There were 6 other babies names Kelly or Kelli the day I was born in that hospital. Apparently, the originality gene skipped a generation in my family.

Signing up for this web site, couldn't think of a name. Was listening to an oldie's station, "Wooley Booley" by Sam the Sham and the Pharos came on. The "again" is because my first account got suspended.

My work nickname before I retired was "Bubbles". Even the CEO called me that. An industrial chemical experiment I was in charge of went wrong, we had foam that floated into the cities waste treatment plant. Over twelve years ago, they still call me that.

I don't really have a nickname but I have a very short simple name. I have found that when people add an ie to the end of my name, they genuinely like me and become a good friend.

The other kids were caught stealing Gooseberries. They were "punished" by the gardener. I was away from them,by the gate, playing with a biscuit tin in the shape of a bus. The guy patted me on the head. Later I opened the biscuit tin and we shared the gooseberries within. The name stuck.

Mine is just part of my real given name. I went by my full name when

I was in my pre teen years. I came out of my shell more, and started

using the shortened version. It suited me. And I've used the shortened

version since. Except for important documents and other legaleze.

Well, my avatar name is my actual name [well minus the butterflies lol]. My nickname is life is Doc to most people, and Candy to my husband when he's being "funny", but usually he calls me Kukala [which means sugar in Hawaiian - which is where he is from].

I got the name DOC because of my unusual amount of medical, sexual, and health information. Honestly, I know way to much. =P

I got the name CANDY from my husband - because he thinks he's funny. I tend to say "eh?" a lot, so he started to call me Canada, [since supposedly so many Canadians say "eh"], but shorted it to Candy since he had to explain why he called me Canada all the time. So limited people call me Candy, since it was originally my husbands nickname for me, people assume it means something . . . dirtier then it does. =P And he is the only one who calls me KUKALA as well.

When I was in the Navy, I had 3: ANDY, DAD, POPPA SMURF

Andy came from my last name.

Dad came from one of my ships that had 114 women on board when we went to the Indian Ocean to Diego Garcia. I had 11 women working for me, and some of the younger ones started calling me Dad. Before I went to my last ship before retiring, I was in a Navy school and a first class petty officer walked up to me and asked if I had been on the L.Y. Spear. When I told her I had, she asked if I knew a certain female Chief. I told her I had. She stuck out her hand and said, "HI, DAD!" When we pulled into a port on the way to and back from the Indian Ocean, I always took some of 'my ladies' with me to show them the sights (I've been in over 30 countries, some more than once).

My last ship was an aircraft carrier (USS Nimitz). One day during a divisional meeting, the division officer asked where I was. Someone said, "He's over there behind the counter." DivOff said, "Stand up so I can see you!" And the same person said, "He is!" And they started calling me Poppa Smurf. They even took my foul weather jacket that I wore on the pier every day and stenciled Poppa Smurf on it. The person who worked on our fork lift trucks only knew me by Poppa Smurf. One day she came to the ship and no one was on the pier. She went to the mid-ship brow and said she needed to see me but only knew me by my nick name. So, they 'passed the word' "SK1 Poppa Smurf, you have a visitor on the mid-ship brow." About 4 or 5 years after I retired, I ran into Pat at the mall. She grabbed me and hugged me and said "Poppa Smurf!" My wife laughed so hard, she had tears streaming down her face.

There are a few of 'my ladies' I still keep in touch with (inculding a retired USMC Gunny Sgt, a friend of one of 'my ladies' who lives in my town) who still call me 'Dad.' One whose husband is from this area comes to town occaisonally and when she is in town, she'll call me to see if they can stop by. The phone will ring and I'll hear, "Hi Dad!" I don't have any 'natural' daughters, but I'm 'Dad' to her.

Not long ago I met a lady through my work and we got talking about our time in the Navy. I mentioned crossing the equator and the 2 women who were my 'poly wogs' (people who have not gone through the crossing intiation). I mentioned the lady who was my 'wog dog' coming north and it turns out the two were sisters! She said "DAD!"

Sorry for being so long winded.

It was one of two nicknames given to me by an aunt of mine back in the early 50's. I was always very small & "short" for my age, thus the nickname.

Lena Horne. She is my favorite black female entertainer. As a black woman coming through an era that was not always friendly to blacks, entertainers or not, she remained true to herself and always maintained herself as a Lady.

The one thing I always try to be, a lady.
