I know I loved mine, but after years on a motorbike, I still found myself looking for my helmet and gloves as I left the house...

My first car was a bug. That car was older than I was and I loved that thing. It had a starter button and a choke. Nobody could have stolen that car, they never would have figured out how to start her up.
Great question! Great memory!

omg.....this brings back memories. When I was a junior in high school, my Dad bought me a 1954 ford. It was 10 years old and was not in real good shape on the outside but had a good engine and brakes. He paid $100.00 for it and then bought 4 new tires for it that cost $200,00. I hated this car but it got me to school and to my after school job. It was sky blue and had rust on it. You had to fill it up with oil and check the gas. I carried extra oil in the trunk and was forever checking the oil because I was warned that if I went without oil it would burn up the engine. We did not have school buses at my high school so we had to either have a car or ride the city bus. The summer after I graduated from high school I went to the Oldsmobile dealership with my Mom to pick up the family car and there in the used car lot was the car of my dreams. A 1963 MG black with red leather interior. A convertible of course and I lived in Connecticut where you could have the top down about 8 weeks out of the year. But, I didn't care I just loved that car. I sold the old Ford and bought it. I think it was $1,200.00 and I remember wondering at the time if I would ever get it paid off in my life time. As much as I loved that car it was a pain in the ***. It wouldn't start when it was raining and in CT, we got a lot of rain. I sold it the following year and bought a brand new 1964 mustang bright red. Of course this car was not a good car to drive in the winter time but I wish I still had the mustang. I never knew it would become a collectors item. Oh, and when I bought the MG I sold the old Ford for $150.00 which I put towards the purchase of the MG. I have had a lot of cars in my life but no accidents....knock on wood.

I had a friend tell me the kind of car I needed and i wrote that down meticulously (actually found out it was the kind of car he dreamed about owning) and ordered it (that was when we could order what we wanted on it). i rode the bus there and a senior person took my order and the red Pontiac Lemans arrived and it cost me just $5,000 and I paid it off in 3 years (not 5 or 6 like is needed today for a $20,000 car) and it took me on many trips. My dad paid the first $1,000 and I was 35 at the time. that car lasted super super long and I drove it in to buy another car when some pipes fell off the bottom and it was no longer drivable. It was kind of a souped up V8 and every guy I dated wanted to drive it around town with me at their side. What nice memories.

when I became a single person (divorcee) I bought myself a special car.......a red sports turbo.......loved that car.....,.the speed.....the colour......it was very consoling. It was a time when I needed a lot of cheering up and just seeing that car did it for me. All was not right with my world but the car gave me such joy although also a few speeding fines. The biggest sacrifice was offering it to my ex when it came time to divide assets. He wanted liquid assets so I had to sell it and give him the cash. It''s a cruel world sometimes ! I also had a motorbike a kwaka 250 ----such a sense of power and freedom driving one never feels from a car however just a bit cold in the winter and not a seniors type of thing

Of course I loved my first car. It was 1966 and the car was a 1956 Dodge. It drank oil and the undercarriage was so rusted, I had to prop up the front bench seat with a piece of two by four so it would not tip over backwards.
It sounds funny now but it still carries a special place in my heart.
I also know that time rewrites every line.

I loved my first car. It was a 1956 Chevy convertible ... bronze in color with a white top. I saw it on a dealers lot that my dad bought cars from. We went in and talked with the owner and he told my dad that I didn't want that car ... he had plenty of others to choose from. It had a 283 V8 with a standard transmission. What more could an eighteen year old boy want? The engine was bad. Dad told him I had my heart set on that particular car so they made a deal and had a rebuilt 265 was put in it. I drove it for about three years with no problems. Wished I had it back now.

Hated it. I'm not even sure what kind it was, but it was big and white, a 4 door, without power steering or brakes. It was so difficult to drive. It took all my strength to turn the steering wheel, and then I had to hold on to the dang thing so it wouldn't fly back in the other direction too fast. It had bench seats front and back, so I could fit a lot of people in it. This was in 1969, not sure what year the car was...maybe 1960-1962.

I loved my first car because I paid for it all myself. It was a pale blue Austin 1100. I worked in the office of a coachbuilders when I left school (the only female) and my boss found me this car which had been written off. The men in the workshop did it up for me and sprayed it and I was allowed to pay it up each week from my wages for all the parts and time that was spent on it.

I was very glad to have some transportation since before I bought my car I had to walk to work.
The bus system wasn't and still isn't all that great in parts of Calif.
I bought it myself for $150. It was a 1959 Studebaker.
It looked and handled like a boat more then a car. It was super heavy and every time I opened up the drivers door, it would slam back on me and bruise my leg.
The tires were bald and my step-dad had to change the head gasket. It got me back and forth to work but I never was overly excited about it, perhaps for the first couple of weeks I had it it was nice not to have to walk to work.

I loved my 1960 Morris Minor 1000 which cost me £40 and lasted me 18 months, because it enabled me to transport my wife and 3 kids about. What a luxury. I had to get rid of it due to large rust holes in the floor. My feet could not keep up with the speed of the engine. But it was bought by me alone without parental help. Today's kids are pampered and spoilt.

I never had one until I got married. My husband sold his beloved Plymouth Coupe (1940's model) to pay my way overseas when he was in the Air Force. He loved that car. I wish I could find another one for him, but he does not drive anymore, and I have to do the driving. I had a VW Beetle which I had to learn to use a clutch on and bounced myself all over the place before I finally got the hang of it. I loved that car, and the kids did too, even though they bounced around with me for awhile.

Absolutely loved it.
1946 Dodge, flat head 6 with suicide doors.
I was 17 years old, and bought it for $65.00 from an old lady who drove it to the liquor store once a week.
I could get 11 people in that thing.
It's still in an old barn in great shape.
None of my boys are into that sort of thing, I'm sorry to say, so there it sits.

I loved the fifty six Chevy, but later our family enjoyed riding enduro motorcycles up in the hills. I had a little Kawasaki and it was a blast. We use to race out in the field behind our house but usually I got whooped by the kids. I never was quite brave enough to jump the hills like our boys did.

My first vehicle was a 1947 International pickup. I thought it was good at the time, but now I realize it rode like a freight train off it's track, and was very noisy, with small windows, and had to be double clutched when shifted. I don't miss it. I do miss my 1957 Chevy convertible however.

many circumstances. My husband worked for a brilliant American vehicle enterprise for 31 years and we've been given (and nonetheless do) a coupon. we've bought many, many new vehicles. My husband takes outstanding care of them, we commerce them in and get something new. that's what we do. We at present became in a %. up truck we had notably much 2 years and ordered a clean COV (loaded, the 1st time ever) and easily very own $4,000. My husband says it is the final new vehicle we can ever get. i do no longer carry my breath on that one. we don't in all danger do lots else. we don't take fancy holidays. we don't bypass to the videos or out to devour lots. we actually need carpeting and a clean kitchen, although.

Timid about driving it. I came to it later in life. Been driving for the last 20 years, and it took me a long time to get to the point where I wasn't afraid to drive on the highway.
It was a slightly used, but in good condition, Ford Taurus.

My first car was an 8 year old BMW and I hated it. It was nothing personal. When we only had one car, we did a Saturday shop. Two stores and over. Once I had my own car my husband said, he wanted me to buy meat from the butcher's, bread from the baker's, vegetables from the market and cheese from the cheese shop.

Our first car was a Vauxhall Victor ( known by us thereafter as the Vauxhall PIP ( 'pig in a poke ' , lol , cos it was always needing money thrown at it) My husband drove it, and it just made me so phobic about learning to drive that i'm still licence - less to this day, ha ha

Yes. I was the 3rd owner, it had too many miles and nothing pretty to brag about, but i paid for it and for once in my life I had freedom beyond just walking or bicycling. I remember getting up at sunrise to drive on the freeway to just experience the exhilaration. It did not accelerate well, it did not drive fast and it did not handle well but it was mine.

I had a Buick Skylark Special and it had white vinyl bucket seats and a V-8 engine. I loved driving that car, too bad it had an aluminum block engine.
